Submit a Resignation and Fulfill Termination Requirements

Communicating about Resignation

If you have decided to end your employment at Boston Region MPO, you should first have a conversation with your supervisor to share the news.

Then, you should submit a letter of resignation to the Executive Director, with copies to the Deputy Executive Director, your supervisor, and [email protected]. You should submit your letter sufficiently in advance of your departure date to allow for a smooth transfer of responsibilities and for the preparation and processing of required employment paperwork. The appropriate amount of advance notice is usually at least equal to your annual vacation time. At a minimum, two weeks’ notice is requested.

Work Status and Transition Plan

Before or immediately after submitting your letter of resignation, meet with your supervisor to develop a transition plan and a strategy to notify staff and others outside of the agency. As part of this process, you may also meet with your director, pertinent project manager(s), and, in some instances, clients to discuss the status of your work and the transition plan.

Offboarding Meeting with Human Resources

Before your final day of employment at Boston Region MPO, someone from the MAPC Human Resources team will schedule an offboarding meeting to discuss the continuation and/or termination of benefits. The Human Resources Administrator will also schedule a meeting to discuss any earned leave time balances and to answer any outstanding questions.

Exit Interview

Shortly before your final day of employment at Boston Region MPO, a member of the Finance and Operations team may conduct an exit interview, which is voluntary for you. Insights that you share at an exit interview can help make improvements to the agency and enhance understanding of the employee experience overall.

Final Day

On or before your final day, you should:

  • Return office entry key fob to the Human Resources Administrator
  • Return State Transportation Building ID/badge to the Human Resources Administrator
  • Return any equipment (such as a laptop with charger, monitor(s), backpack, or other equipment) to a member of the IT Group
  • Ensure that all timesheets through the last day of employment are entered in Deltek
