Use Wireless Devices

The agency provides access to the internet and, in some cases, to our own local area network, from wireless devices such as wireless-enabled laptop computers, tablets, and mobile phones. This access may only be used for purposes directly related to the agency’s work.

Access to the Internet Only

Access to the internet only (i.e., not to the local area network) is provided primarily for visitors from outside the agency. It may also be used by employees who need to access the internet from their own laptop, tablet, or mobile phone for work-related purposes for relatively short periods of time.

The wireless access point identified by the SSID CTPS_Guest provides this service for guests.  Please see a member of the IT staff for assistance.

Access to the Internet and Local Area Network

Access to the internet and to the local area network is provided for use by laptop computers and tablets owned by the agency.

The wireless access points identified by the SSID CTPS_Staff provides this service. These devices connect to the local area network and the internet from behind the firewall at a speed up to 1 Gbit/sec.  This device is intended for use by employees only.

General Technical Information

All wireless access points support the IEEE 802.11ac wireless local area network (WLAN) standard, and are backward compatible with the older standards. You should have a reasonably strong signal in all areas of the office.

To use any of the wireless access points, a wireless device must be capable of WPA2 or WPA security and encryption for data security. You must also supply a “pass phrase” to use the Wi-Fi. Please see a system administrator for the current pass phrase for the access point(s) you wish to use. Note that for security reasons, the pass phrases are subject to change at any time, so check before each use.
